Vast Moon Roller Mahogany Longcase Clock

A very substantial Victorian North Country mahogany longcase clock. The hood has a swan neck pediment and heavy turned side hood columns. The trunk has a small door flanked by side columns and rosewood and mahogany crossbanding, with a matching base on outsplayed bracket feet. The large,colourful 16 inch dial has seasons of the year corner paintings and a moon roller disc within the arch that rotates over a lunar cycle to reveal a maritime scene or rural cottage scene. The dial is signed by the Maker James Winterbottom of Oldham. The 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell.
