A very original, cottage longcase clock of pleasing restrained lines. It has a well figured solid English oak case, with a flat top hood,turned side pillars and a long door. The painted enamel dial is signed by the maker Edward Cox, of Lindfield this is still an idyllic country village, little changed since this clock was made. The clock has a 30 hour rope driven movement and strikes the hours on a bell, which will have a longer duration of 2-3 days if the strike is silenced. Edward Cox is listed as a maker in 1828.
