Small Oak 8 Day Cottage Longcase Clock

A small, original,solid oak longcase clock dating to the first half of the 19th Century (c.1835). It has a flat top case of simple lines, turned side pillars with brass capitals, with a long door and a plinth base. The 11 inch square painted enamel dial has a subsidiary seconds dial and is signed by the maker T.W. Collings of Dunstable. It has an 8 day movement that sounds the hours on a bell. This is an unusual clock in so far as most clocks of this size and proportions only have 30 hour duration movements, this one being 8 day. Thomas George Collings of Dunstable is listed as working 1830-1864.
