Scottish Oak Longcase Clock

An 18th Century oak cased longcase clock from Edinburgh. It has an arch top hood with a dental molding and substantial gilt brass Corinthian capital columns. The trunk has a break arch long door and a shaped plinth base. The heavy brass dial has a silvered chapter ring, a date window, and an engraved and silvered name plaque within the arch signed Sam Brown, Edinburgh (listed as a clockmaker 1750-1787.) The 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell, and has a nice decorated pendulum bob.Inside the door is a period label saying Samual Brown, opposite the guard, north side of the street Edinburgh 1750-87
