Mid 18th Century Oak Cottage Longcase Clock

REF: 106776

Sold

A small, well proportioned solid oak longcase clock, dating to the mid 18th Century. It has a flat top hood with reeded side columns, and a long door with a shaped plinth. The brass dial has a silvered chapter ring and corner sprandrels and a date window. The 30 hour movement is of an early posted lantern clock form and strikes the hours on a bell. Made by a Quaker clockmaker, this can be identified by the dial design and lack of a name as the Quaker order denied any form of self-promotion.
