A Rare Model Of Temple Bar Gate Mantel Clock

REF: 376826

Sold

A rare model of Temple Bar Gate incorporating a striking clock .The solid oak case has fine detail reproducing the arch that was built by Sir Christopher Wren in 1672 and was removed from its original location in 1878 and subsequently rebuilt in the city of London in 2005. It has a French eight day bell striking movement that sounds the hours and halves on a bell. The pendulum bears the City Of London arms and swings before a locked gate. A rare surviving article of London Architectural history in outstanding original condition . This clock probably would have been a special commision to represent the removal of the arch in 1878.
